Stephen Huling Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dunn Funeral Home - Bowling Green on Feb. 6, 2026.
Not every voice uses words. Stephen (Steve) Huling shared his thoughts, his needs and his desires with gestures and vocalizations while his eyes communicated unconditional love. We lost that gentle, yet powerful voice on February 4, 2026.

Although he spent many of his childhood years living in state operated institutions for individuals with disabilities, Steve became one of the first people in Wood County to move into a group home in 1979. He prospered in his new home, receiving excellent care and access to his home town amenities. Although she was initially the nurse in charge of Steve's medical care, Judy Yackee became his chosen family along with her late husband, Lyle. Together they introduced Steve to all aspects of family life, an eclectic social life and an extensive group of friends.

Always the first to greet and welcome people into his circle, Steve brought a certain lightness and much laughter to the room. He appreciated music and travel and he thoroughly enjoyed reading his daily newspapers. From his work at Wood Lane Industries to his employment in food services at Bowling Green State University, Steve proved that people with different abilities are capable of contributing to their community.

Steve's family and many friends extend their appreciation to the most outstanding folks who supported and served him throughout his adult life, especially including the staff members of Wood Lane Residential Services, WLI, Careology, the Boundless Respite Home and the Wood County Board of Developmental Disabiities (Wood Lane). Steve was also made comfortable by the staff at the Wood County Hospital and Bridge Hospice. His was a life well-lived and much loved.

A Celebration of Life honoring our dear friend will be held at a later date to be announced. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dunn Funeral Home in Bowling Green.
