BOWLING GREEN -- Mary Louise (Unferdros) Herzig, age 87, of Bowling Green, Ohio, and formerly of Grand Rapids, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026. She was born on January 23, 1939, in Toledo, Ohio, to Louis and Ruth (Lyons) Unferdros.
Mary attended DeVilbiss High School in the Toledo Public School system and later earned her Bachelor of Social Work from Bowling Green State University. Prior to her retirement, she applied her social work education throughout her lifetime by serving in a variety of roles. Her work included leadership positions at Wood Haven Health Care in Bowling Green, Ohio, direct service with Planned Parenthood and extending dedicated care, advocacy, and service to others.
Mary was a faithful member of Hosanna Lutheran Church, where she formed many lasting friendships within her congregation.
She is survived by her sons, Michael (Arleta) Herzig and Daniel (Amy) Herzig; her daughter, Holly (Daniel) Foster; her sisters, Martha "Betty" (Unferdros) Kropf and Paula Unferdros; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mary's funeral service will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Dunn Funeral Home, located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 W. Wooster Street. Visitation will take place on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 6:00 p.m. The service will be officiated by Mary's niece, Nicole Ritz.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mary's memory to Hosanna Lutheran Church or the Wood County Senior Center.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Dunn Funeral Home, Bowling Green, Ohio.
