Stephen Robert Huston

Stephen Robert Huston, affectionately known as Steve, passed away on October 24, 2025 at his home with his family by his side in Sneads Ferry, NC, at the age of 76. Born on July 12, 1949, in Lincoln, NE, Steve lived a life filled with passion, dedication, and a love for adventure.

Steve's remarkable career spanned over four decades as an engineer with the railroad, where he dedicated 43 years of his life to ensuring the safe and efficient transport of countless passengers and goods. His work ethic, commitment, and contributions to the industry will not be forgotten by those who had the honor of working alongside him.

Steve had a zest for life that was evident in his many interests. He found joy in playing poker and visiting casinos. Steve also cherished the time he spent enjoying cruises with his beloved wife, Sue, creating memories that would last a lifetime. His love for cars was undeniable, and he took particular pride in his 1965 Mercury Comet. And, of course, no day was complete without his trusty flat toothpick-a necessity to Steve, as any others just would not do.

Preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Margaret Huston, and his brother, Terry Huston, Steve leaves behind a legacy of love and family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sue Huston, who stood by his side through many of life's journeys. His cherished children, Ger Gentle, Donna Griffin (Mark), Don Gentle (Zoob), Paul Linkogle (Karey), and Andy Linkogle (Heidi), carry forward his spirit and values. He also leaves behind his dear sister, Cindy Jenne (Bob), sister-in-law Ada Huston, 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family members and friends who loved him deeply.

Steve's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and perseverance. Those who knew him are encouraged to celebrate his legacy by embracing life's adventures with the same enthusiasm and joy that he did.

Steve will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but for the warmth, love, and kindness he brought into the lives of those who were fortunate to know him.
