Stephen Jason Slechta, a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, at the age of 49.

Jason was born on February 3, 1975, in Charlotte, NC. He moved to Winston-Salem as a young child, and later attended both Bishop McGuinness High School and Carver High School. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, honorably serving four years. After his time in the Marine Corps, he attended the University of North Carolina (UNC), where he became a lifelong fan of Tar Heel athletics. After graduating from UNC, he became an officer in the United States Navy, where he served for 18 years. Jason's remarkable vivacity and zest for life were reflected in his passion for time spent kayaking, running, and grilling with family and friends.

Jason's selflessness, energy, and unwavering dedication to those he loved will forever be remembered. He was a loving husband to his wife, Lindsey Slechta, and a devoted father to daughter, Nora Slechta, and son, Andrew Slechta. Jason was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Slechta; and is survived by his father, Steve Slechta; his brother, Ryan Slechta; his sister, Erin (Slechta) Maynor; and countless friends and family who loved him.

A service will be held at the Salisbury VA Cemetery Annex, 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC 23814, on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 12:30 PM ET, followed by a reception. A celebration of life will also be held on January 25, 2025 in Winston-Salem, NC with details to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in Jason’s honor.

Jason’s legacy of love and service will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
