Roger Lawrence Slechta

Roger Lawrence Slechta was born on August 24, 1958, the son of Orville Jr. and Esther (Frazier) Slechta in Denison, Iowa. He was raised in the Methodist faith. He received his education Denison schools.

Roger married Denise Kuehnhold on November 20, 1993, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and were blessed with one son, RJ. The couple later separated. Roger spent time working various jobs for Dale Schiltz in California. After he moved back to Iowa, he worked at Farmland Foods and the Dubuque Packing Plant. Roger enjoyed fishing, hunting and horseback riding. He also appreciated racing, especially figure eight race cars. One of his favorite pastimes was playing pool. He cherished the time he was able to spend with his friends, son and grandchildren.

Roger passed away suddenly, with his son, RJ and Kathy by his side, on November 15, 2023, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 65 years, two months and 22 days.

He was preceded in death by his father, Orville Slechta, Jr.; wife, Denise Slechta; two sisters, Connie Gaa and Lois Murphy; two nieces: April Rice and Ashlee Gaa; nephew, Jesse Paul. He is survived by his sons: RJ Slechta of Denison, Ryan Bigley of Oklahoma and Trent Mefford of Minnesota; mother, Esther Slechta of Vail; two grandchildren: Ryatt and Remington; sister, Gloria Paul of Colorado Springs, Colorado; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

 

Visitation with the family greeting friends will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 20, 2023 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Memorials may be directed to the family.
