Stephen Kelley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Memorial Funeral Home - Fanwood on Jan. 18, 2025.
Stephen Merritt Kelley, III, 87, passed away at his home in Fanwood where he's lived for over 50 years, on Friday, January 17, 2025, with his loving family by his side. Born in Springfield, VT, he was the son of the late Robert and Evelyn Kelley.
Steve loved sports! He was inducted into the Alfred University Hall of Fame in 1982 for Track & Field, Basketball, and Football. He enjoyed tennis, softball, golf and the annual Thanksgiving family football game, but enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren excel at sports even more. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. Steve worked for IBM for more than 35 years going from selling typewriters door-to-door in Manhattan to brokering billion dollar deals with other major corporations.
Besides his parents, Stephen was predeceased by his sister Kerry Holmes, and his grandson Henry Meacock. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years Mary, his loving children Cheryl Reid, Colleen Meacock, and Robert Kelley along with their spouses, Jeffrey Reid, William Meacock, and Maureen Kelley, and four grandchildren Michelle Reid, Sean Reid, Eleanor Meacock, and Stephen Kelley.
Friends may visit the family on Wednesday, January 22 from 3:00-7:00pm at Memorial Funeral Home in Fanwood. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 23 at 11:00am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Scotch Plains, with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.

My deepest condolences to your family. I have such happy memories growing up next door and running the neighborhood with Bobby, along with Tim and Chris across the street. Mr. Kelley and Mrs. Kelley always opened their beautiful home to me with such love. Truly magical years. Love to you all.
