Stephen “Steve” Richard Kincheloe, “Kinch”, 78, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025, at Augusta Health in Fishersville.

He was born on August 2, 1946, in Rockingham County to the late Jack Evans and Edith Barton Tutwiler Kincheloe.

Steve had an incredible zest for life. He loved fiercely and treated everyone the same. He was never lacking in joy and was fondly described as “the happiest man on earth”.

He served in the Army National Guard and then went on to retire from American Safety Razor after forty years of service. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, the Staunton Elks Lodge #351 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #680.

Steve had a love for golf that began as a young boy playing Gypsy Hill Golf Course. He cherished his work after retirement, working at Ingleside and alongside his son at Nuckols Gun Works in Staunton. In addition to playing golf with his treasured friends, he loved playing cards, traveling, and was a faithful supporter of his grandkids’ athletics. He was a lifetime fan of the Washington Redskins and was thrilled to see them make it to the NFC Championship game this season.

Steve married Linda, the love of his life, on February 14, 1971, and together they shared nearly fifty-four years.

In addition to his wife, he leaves behind his son, Christopher “Chris” Kincheloe and his wife, Megan; his daughter, Katie Kincheloe-Brickett and her husband, Justin; his adored grandchildren, Graycie and Colt Kincheloe; his brother, Alan Bradley Kincheloe and his wife, Sharon; his sister, Karen Long Harris and her husband, Milton; his sister-in-law, Kathie Kincheloe; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Glenn and Gertrude Shull; his special nieces and nephews, Wesley and Nevin Kincheloe, Rachael Freeman (Clay), Zachary Long, Carlene Rankin, and Amelia Hiner (Steve); and numerous great nieces and nephews, who were very dear to him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Evans Kincheloe; and his brother-in-law, Gary Evans Long.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Bridge Christian Church in Fishersville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 10:00 AM.

Burial will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dave Miller Memorial Scholarship (c/o Staunton Elks Lodge #351, 29 Tams St, Staunton, VA 24401).
