Stephen W. Knop, beloved Physician's Assistant, brilliant woodworker and devoted family man passed away on May 18th, 2025 at the age of 73. He will be remembered by his warmth, compassion, wit, humor and a true dedication to his family.
Born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan on May 30, 1951, he lived in various places thought the US finally settling back in his hometown many years ago. Here, back home in Michigan, he enjoyed a long career helping others with his medical skills as a compassionate Physician's Assistant changing people's lives for the better. Having retired recently, he was able to transfer that sense of hard work, precision and focus from his days working in the hospital to long hours in his wood shop. The things he created with his hands were beautiful, useful and made to last much like the relationships he forged in his lifetime. Anyone who knew him, knew that it wasn't about the things he made, but more about who he made them for and the joy these works of art brought to those around him.
Proud son of the late Mary and William Knop, he is survived by his wife Jill, his stepsons Bill(Amber) and Christopher (Lisa), brother Timothy and sisters Kathleen(Dennis) and Linda, joining his beloved sister Mary Ann in heaven. He leaves behind his granddaughter (Emma) many nephews, nieces and a large circle of friends and family who he made a deep impression on.
A celebration of Stephen's life will be held on Thursday May 22 from 4:00 until 8:00 pm at AJ Desmond and Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road, Troy, Michigan with a rosary at 6:00 pm. A funeral mass in his remembrance will be held on on Friday May 23rd at 10:00 am at The National Basilica of the Shrine of the Little Flower on Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak, with visitation starting at 9:30. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society.
Stephen's legacy of love, craftsmanship and service to others will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His zest for life was tremendous, so let us all remember him with a sense of love, selflessness a touch of humor and always with steady hands.
May he rest in peace and live with Jesus forever.
