Stephen Mettert Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Voss & Sons Funeral & Cremation Services on Oct. 1, 2025.
Stephen Warren Mettert Sr., 78, passed away peacefully in his Seymour home surrounded by his loving family on August 28, 2025. A Seymour native, he was born May 22, 1947, to the late Wilmer and Mary (Gerrard) Mettert.
Steve proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968. Following his military service, he began a 34-year career with the U.S. Postal Service. After retirement, his commitment to serving others continued as he became a familiar and friendly face to many as a bus driver for Seymour Transit.
Steve cherished family vacations to Gulf Shores, Alabama. He enjoyed playing softball and was a lifelong sports fan. Steve rooted enthusiastically for the Cincinnati Reds and the Indiana Hoosiers, sharing countless memorable games with family and friends.
Music held a special place in Steve's heart. His favorite artists included the Beatles, Elvis Presley, Ricky Nelson, and the Everly Brothers, who brought a timeless soundtrack to his life. He often relaxed by strumming his guitar to his favorite tunes.
Left behind to cherish Steve's memory are his beloved wife, Connie (Kilgas) Mettert; sons, Steve (Tricia) Mettert, Ritch (Jennifer Hartwell) Mettert, and Eric (Jenni) Mettert; sister, Diana (Dennis) Hercamp; grandchildren, Clayton (Brittany) Mettert, Haden (Lauren) Mettert, and Kherington Mettert; and great-granddaughter, Aubrey Mettert.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, listed above.
Funeral services for Steve will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Voss and Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, 316 North Chestnut Street, Seymour. Jeff Prewitt will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Steve will be laid to rest immediately following the service at Riverview Cemetery, with full military honors accorded.
