Stephen Louis Mittman
April 10, 1946 – March 11, 2025
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, and papa, Stephen L. Mittman (Shmuel Lazar ben Sroel Meier), who passed away peacefully on the evening of March 11, 2025.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Steve was a man of great heart, strong conviction, and deep love for his family and friends. He proudly served in the United States Air Force, where he fought in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in service to his country. A proud patriot, Steve loved the United States of America and carried that love with him throughout his life.
He was a lifelong fan of the New York Knicks and the Brooklyn Dodgers, a love that connected him to his roots and underscored his intense loyalty. He was an avid fisherman, collected model trains, had a passion for cars and watches, and was a skilled mechanic, craftsman, and tinkerer-a man who could fix anything. He found joy in coaching youth sports on Long Island and eventually in watching his grandchildren in all their sporting endeavors, relishing in the opportunity to share his wisdom and enthusiasm with the next generation.
Steve had a loud, bombastic voice that could command any room, but beneath it was a quiet, gentle heart that swelled with love for his family and those closest to him. He was married for 56 years to his beloved wife, Nina, his high school sweetheart and the love of his life. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising a family filled with love and laughter.
Over the course of his career, Steve worked in the clothing, automotive, and home furnishing industries, excelling in sales and sales-related roles. His natural charisma, deep knowledge, and ability to connect with people made him a true master of his craft.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Nina; his loving children, Howard and Seth; his daughters-in-law, Pamela and Kim; and his cherished grandchildren, Lucas, Shane, Ashlyn, and Sienna, who brought him endless joy. His presence, kind-heartedness, and endless support will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those fortunate enough to have known him.
A funeral service will be held on March 13, 2025 at Louis Suburban Funeral Parlour. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Magen David Adom (afmda.org), Israel's national emergency medical service.
May his memory be a blessing.
