Colonel Stephen V. Motylinski, 59, of Palm Coast, FL, passed away peacefully in his sleep from
natural causes on Tuesday, January 3, 2023. Steve was born in Yonkers, NY, and resided in
Medford Lakes, NJ, for nearly 30 years before moving to Palm Coast, Florida. Steve attended
the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He
received his MBA from the University of Central Oklahoma. Steve was commissioned through
the United States Air Force ROTC at VMI in 1985. He served seven years on active duty before
joining the Air Force Reserves in 1992. During his twenty-year career with the reserves, some
highlights include serving as Commander of the 913th Airlift Wing 31st Aerial Port Squadron,
volunteering to serve in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and achieving the rank of Colonel in 2009. He
retired from the military in 2013 and received the Legion of Merit honor among many other
service and achievement medals.
In his civilian life, Steve worked a majority of his career as a Project Manager for IBM and spent
his last five years working at Meadowgate Technologies. He was an active parishioner at St.
Mary of the Lakes Church in Medford, NJ, and was a 4th Degree Knight with council 6520. Steve
was a Life Member of the MOAA, and was a member of the ROA, VFW Post 7677 in Medford,
and the American Legion.
Steve was a devoted husband, proud father, supportive sibling, and fun-loving grandfather. He
was a loyal friend, kind-hearted neighbor, and a transparent coworker. During his life, he led by
example, holding himself to the highest standards of honesty and integrity. He loved watching
the Steelers and Yankees and enjoyed cheering for and coaching his daughters' sports teams.
His most joyous moments included making pizza with his family, especially his granddaughter,
attending VMI alumni events and football games, finding goofy ways to make others laugh, and
enjoying a nice after dinner cordial.
Son of the late Kenneth and Catherine Motylinski; he is survived by his loving wife of 36 years,
Deborah (nee O'Connell) Motylinski; his two daughters, Melissa Baker (Cabot), and Jennifer
Granstrand (Aidan); his brother, Kenneth Motylinski Jr. (Michelle); his sister, Valerie Tulotta
(Phil); his granddaughter, Skylar Baker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

My dad, Rich, worked with Mr. Motylinski for many years at IBM. My dad always spoke so highly of Steve; in fact, growing up I thought Steve was much older than my dad because of the way he was talked about... it was clear my dad viewed him as a mentor even though my dad was 11 years older. Steve and Debbie attended my wedding in June 2022 and I'm so grateful that I was able to tell Steve that his presence that day made me feel like my dad was there. I sure that Steve and my dad are somewhere, watching over their girls. My condolences to Debbie, Jen and Melissa.
