Stephen Patrick Robinson, age 55, of Cropseyville, New York, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Albany Medical Center.
Steve was born on March 17, 1970, in Schenectady, New York, to Charles and Lauraine Robinson.
He is survived by his wife, Christina; his daughter, Maria Stanko (Zach); his grandson, Carson; his mother, Lauraine; his brother, Peter (Jinger); his sister, Laurie (David); and innumerable friends who are like family. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles.
Steve graduated from Schenectady Christian School and attended Hudson Valley Community College. Over the course of his 32-year career with Amtrak, he worked as a master welder and then served as a foreman, most recently overseeing the safety and management of personnel for the major replacement project on the Livingston Avenue Bridge that crosses the Hudson River between Rensselaer and Albany.
Steve had a contagious enthusiasm for guns and shooting, which he shared with many family members and friends. He was a superlative marksman and won numerous competitions for long-distance shots. A member of Brunswick Sportsman's Club, he would spend time there whenever he could fit it in. He also loved fly fishing, camping, and pretty much anything that allowed him to be outdoors. Steve was also an excellent cook, and enjoyed creating his own restaurant-quality recipes, ranging from elaborate cheesecakes to perfectly seared steaks. He loved specialty knives, particularly one wickedly sharp cleaver.
To know Steve was to love him. He could make friends with anyone and had a way of making each person he talked to feel important. He loved his many, many friends, but his highest priority was spending time with his family, whom he loved and cared for so incredibly well. His grandson, Carson, brought him unparalleled joy and he couldn't get enough time with him. Even though he was very social, Steve also craved quiet and loved nothing more than being at home with his loved ones, hanging out on the back deck, sharing a good meal, and laughing together. He loved animals, particularly dogs, and especially his beloved Guiness and Jackson.
He loved the Lord and his favorite Scripture verse was John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
A time to remember and honor Steve will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 4–8 p.m. at Hill Creek Tavern, 3925 NY-2, Troy, NY 12180. A short memorial service will occur from 5–5:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Go Fund Me set up to help with medical and funeral bills (https://gofund.me/a38ae4476) or the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (https://mohawkhumane.org/ecards).
