Stephen Joseph “Steve” Suding, 66, of Arcola, IL passed away at 7:00 AM on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at his residence in Arthur, IL.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, November 16, 2025 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main St., Arcola, IL. A celebratory farewell toast will be held at 5:30 PM at the funeral home.
Steve was born on October 17, 1959 in Batesville, IN. He was a son of Carl F. and Loretta (Loechle) Suding.
Steve is survived by three children, Nick Suding of Arcola, IL, Erin Kiger and her husband Jarod of Mattoon, IL and Lesley Fleming and her husband Mitch of Atwood, IL, eight grandchildren, Brock Suding, Brooklyn Poorman, Grant, Reagan and Harrison Kiger, and Carter, Cooper and Caroline Fleming, his honey, Lisa Trower of Arthur, IL, and seven siblings, Jim Suding and his wife Cathleen of Lakeland, FL, Karla Biltz and her husband David of Batesville, IN, Sharon Kelsey of Arcola, IL, Dale Suding of Arcola, IL, Bernie Suding and his wife Cathy of Sullivan, IL, Bill Suding and his wife Rena of Atwood, IL and Amy Bachman and her husband Jeff of Arcola, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sibling.
Steve graduated from Arcola High School in 1978 and went on to have a varied career. He worked at Progress Tank and spent several years at Trailmobile in Charleston, IL, until they closed. He also worked at several oil wells around the Arcola area. For a couple years, he ran a car detailing shop in Tuscola and was last employed at JER, currently known as Nordco, in Arcola, IL.
Steve was deeply involved in his community, serving on the Arcola Jaycee’s and the Arcola Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years. During his time there he held the positions of Fire Chief, Assistant Chief and Captain.
Steve was a man with a great sense of humor, known for making others laugh and feel appreciated. He had a knack for fixing just about anything and was often referred to as a handyman. Outside of work, Steve loved spending time outdoors, whether he was fishing wherever water could be found, building model cars, mowing, or tinkering around at home or at the fire station.
Steve was an avid sports fan, the Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnati Reds being a couple of his favorites. He was a devoted father and grandfather, always cherishing the time spent chasing his grandchildren’s activities and supporting them in their events.
Memorials may be made to the Arcola Volunteer Fire Department or the Sarah Bush Lincoln Regional Cancer Center.
