Stephen H. Verrill Sr., 84, of Whitman, Massachusetts, passed away on February 27, 2025, due to complications from Alzheimer's disease.
He was born on January 18, 1941, in Waltham, Massachusetts, to the late Oliver Wendell Verrill Jr. and Ruth (Vahey) Verrill and grew up on Wompatuck Road in Hingham, Massachusetts.
Stephen dedicated over twenty years of his life to the Board of Assessors in Whitman and served as the Boy Scouts of America leader for Pack 59 of Whitman. He was a self-made man, owning his own construction company and working as a construction supervisor for Pequod Associates in Boston and the Sylvania lighting division in Woburn. He also took great pride in his work for the Whitman-Hanson Regional High School on two separate occasions.
An avid antique car enthusiast and a member of the Wheels of Time and Pacesetters car clubs, Stephen poured his heart into rebuilding antique cars and trucks. His latest project was a 25'1942 Chris-Craft Lake boat. Stephen had a passion for horseback riding and found peace for many years at the White Stallion Ranch in Tucson, Arizona. He also spent over 20 years camping with his family at Ellis Haven Campground in Plymouth, Massachusetts. His knack for fixing things was renowned, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Stephen is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Frances (DeLesDernier) Verrill of Whitman, Massachusetts, his daughter Pamela Verrill of Norton, Massachusetts, and his son Stephen H. Verrill Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Pembroke, Massachusetts and he was known as BeBe to his cherished grandson, Stephen H. Verrill III (Hudson), who was the light of his life. He is the brother to Father Wendell Verrill of Hingham, Ruth Deidre (Verrill) Robinson (deceased) of Buzzards Bay, Sandra (Verrill) White of Florida and Lisa (Verrill) Milone of N. Weymouth. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Steve will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, dedication, and craftsmanship will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
Family and friends are invited to attend Stephen's visiting hours on Thursday March 13th from 4:00-7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM funeral service to follow at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. A burial will be held at a later date
