Stephen “Steve” Cecil Waller, 72, of Rossville, Georgia passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026. He was born on March 17, 1953 in Rahway, NJ to Cecil and Olga Waller and was the only son of seven children. He was of the Christian faith.
He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1971, received his bachelor’s degree from UTC, and his master’s degree, summa cum laude from Emory University. Steve served as a Corpsman in the U.S. Navy with the Marine Corps serving in both Vietnam and the Philippines, and also served in the Arkansas Army National Guard. He spent most of his career as a physician’s assistant in the Chattanooga area.
Steve was known as a prankster who loved sharing obscure facts and stories, though you could never quite tell when he was exaggerating. He was never without a questionable home-improvement project and loved hunting, fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his sons and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Samuel Jack Waller, and sisters Patricia Chrnalogar and Lorraine Waller.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory wife Cynthia Waller, sons Joshua Waller (Amanda) and Zachary Waller (Misty), stepsons Matt Casey and Preston Casey (Bianca), sisters Diana Smith, Mary Farrar (Jimmy), Joann Trimble, and Eve Ellis (Brian), grandchildren Maggie Waller (Trevor Marcy) and Aaron Waller, step grandchildren Ronin and Carter Casey, many nieces and nephews, and friends, especially Joe and Julie Key.
Per Steve’s wishes, a private family service will be held with a celebration of life to follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations to the Katz-Moses Woodworkers with Disabilities Fund or the National Veterans Outdoor Resource HUB in honor of Stephen Waller.
