Stephen Edward Warnick

Stephen Edward Warnick, 83, died peacefully at the home of his brother near Springfield, WV, on January 9, 2026. He had been under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle, Kearneysville/Romney, WV, for about three weeks.
Steve was born December 15, 1942, in Lonaconing, MD, and grew up on a small farm on Dan's Mountain. He resided in the Roanoke, VA, area for the past fifty plus years. Steve was a seven- year veteran of the US Navy during the Viet Nam Era, including service aboard the nuclear-powered attack submarine USS Scorpion. Military Service awards he received included: National Defense Service Medal, Viet Nam Service Metal, Viet Nam Campaign Medal, and Navy Expeditionary Medal (Cuba). He then had a 37-year career with the 3M Corporation, repairing business machines and copiers. Steve was an outdoorsman and greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Agatha (Colmer) Warnick; brother, Ronald Warnick; sister-in-law, Ruth Warnick; and stepson, DeWayne Lawhorn. Surviving are three brothers: Harry Warnick and companion, Delores Delawder, Springfield, WV; Col. John Warnick (USAF Ret.) and wife, Ina, Ridgeley, WV; and Michael Warnick and wife, Helen Ann, Frostburg, MD; two sisters: Helen Bailey, Tucson, AZ; and Molly Deniker and companion, Dan Spiker, Gilmore/Frostburg, MD; sister-in-law, Patsy Warnick, Spokane, WA; eleven nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.
Also surviving are two step-sons, Jay Lawhorn and wife Gwen, FL, and Nathan Lawhorn, VA; five step-granddaughters who played an active part in Steve's life: Diana Lawhorn, husband, Seth Guthrie and son, Parker Guthrie, Franklinton, NC; Breanna Brandenburg and husband Austin, Salem, VA; Sydney Lawhorn, Roanoke, VA; Adrianna Lawhorn, NC; and Morgan Lawhorn, NC; step-daughter-in-law, Sarrah Keller, Roanoke, VA; and a dear friend of over twenty years, Esther Karanja, Roanoke, VA.
Per his wishes, Steve will be cremated. A small family gathering will be held in the spring to inter his ashes and celebrate his life.
