Steve Baumann Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Godager Pratt Funeral Home - Muscoda on Jan. 5, 2026.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Steven 'Steve' Joseph Baumann, on December 19th, 2025 at UW-Madison hospital. Born March 18th, 1961 in Wausau, WI to Leander 'Lee' and Loretta Baumann. Graduated from Riverdale High in 1979, he then attended the South West Technical college for auto body and collision. From there he worked for the Cottage Grove Co-Op, GCR/Firestone and the majority of his career at the 464 Union as a Laborer out of Madison, WI. He was also known for his nick name "Odie" after his favorite character the dog "Otis" from the cartoon Garfield. A loving husband to his wife Barbara, they were married on May 26th, 1984 at St. John's Church in Muscoda, WI. Together they raised 3 children.
Steve was well known for his canning abilities and love for cooking. His pickles were legendary among those who knew him and highly requested year after year. He also had a passion for cooking spices and would grow a variety of hot peppers in his many gardens that he was devoted to. He will be remembered for his hospitality where each year he would host the annual 'deer camp' during deer hunting season for his family and close friends. Steve enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, gardening, listening to rock and roll music, storytelling and hunting. His spirited personality, sense of humor and presence at holidays, gatherings and celebrations will be deeply missed.
He is mourned by his wife, Barbara; 3 children - Heidi (Trent) Stadele of Mount Horeb; Stephanie (Thomas) Kral of Milwaukee; Shane Baumann of Muscoda; 2 grandchildren of Heidi (Trent) Stadele, mother Loretta Baumann of Muscoda; and 5 siblings David Baumann, Lynn Redinger, Lorna Elliott, Daniel Baumann, Leon Baumann.
He was preceded in death by his father Lee Baumann.
He may be gone from our sight too soon but is forever in our hearts.
Burial in John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery will be planned for May 2026. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with their arrangements.
