Steve Blomquist

Our beloved husband, father and brother Steven ("Steve") Melvin Blomquist passed into his Savior's arms on November 27, 2023 in his Herriman, Utah home surrounded by his loved ones. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) took him from us way too soon. Thankfully he is now free from the struggles of this terrible disease. Known by all as one of the nicest, kindest, gentlest, and most generous people you could ever meet, Steve will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Steve was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 19, 1950 to parents Melvin Reinhold and Margit Louise (Johnson) Blomquist. He grew up in southern California and married his eternal companion, Lori Nilsen, on June 21, 1980. They have four children and six grandchildren whom he adored.
When he learned his diagnosis was terminal, Steve was asked about a bucket list and what he always wanted to do before he died. His response: He only wanted to spend the time he had left with his family.
Faith and family were the center of Steve's life. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, served numerous positions within the church, and served a full-time mission in Peru and Ecuador.
Steve loved to learn and tinker with things. He always had multiple projects pending where he would be building or repairing various items, often quite literally making a home for his family. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Brigham Young University in 1976 and he was a Professional Engineer licensed in California and Washington. As a defense contractor who engineered military tracked vehicles, including the Army's Bradley Fighting Vehicle, Steve never considered it work but rather treated it as another opportunity to play with machines. He also earned a Master of Business Administration from Santa Clara University in 1988.
Endlessly selfless and kind, service was a focus of Steve's life. He was an Eagle Scout and was always looking for opportunities to serve others, whether it was helping a family or ward member move, fixing a vehicle, sprucing up a garden, or performing home improvements. If you ever needed a tool or a helping hand, Steve was there for you.
Steve is survived by his wife, Lori (Nilsen) Blomquist, and his four children, Andrew and Erin (McKay) Blomquist, Salinas, California, Robert and Brittany (Malcom) Blomquist, Sandpoint, Idaho; Elizabeth Blomquist, San Diego, California; and Olivia Blomquist, Bellevue, Washington. He is further survived by six grandchildren, MacKayla, Kaelan, Ross, Shelby, Rylee,and Clay Blomquist, as well as Steve's siblings, Dennis Blomquist and Evan (Mala) Blomquist, Phoenix, Arizona, and Marlene (Brent) Peterson, Appomattox, Virginia. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Steve.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Margit Blomquist, and brother, Milan Blomquist.
Steve's family wish to thank the Rocky Mountain chapter of the ALS Association and the ALS Clinic of the University of Utah for their kindness, care and support. They further thank the Rose Canyon 2nd and 3rd wards for their selfless service to Steve and his family.
A viewing will be held at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home at 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway in South Jordan, Utah on December 17, 2023 at 5 p.m. MST.
Steve's Celebration of Life will be held on 11 a.m. MST at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home at 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway in South Jordan, Utah on December 18, 2023, followed immediately by a procession and burial at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park at 3401 S. Highland Drive in Millcreek, Utah.
