Steve Delano Bullock was called home to his final rest on September 10, 2025. He was the youngest of 22 of the late William Henry Bullock and the late Ida Mayo Bullock. Steve spent her formative years in Enfield, North Carolina, where he attended Inborden Elementary School.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He lived a life full of purpose and joy and was known for his work ethic, quick wit, and generosity.

Steve accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and gave his life to Him at First Baptist Church and was an active member until he left to go to Virginia Union University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree.

Virginia Union University was pivotal in Steve's development. He often talked about his experience there and how it shaped his life. VUU provided him with a profound understanding of what it meant to be a leader, humanitarian, and a change agent. He also met his love Doris Louise Elizabeth (Kelly) Bullock at VUU. They would go on to raise a family and travel the world together.

He also served in the U.S. Army on American soil as a communications specialist. He would often say "I fought the war at Fort Niagara" with a smile one his face. But he was always proud that he served his country.

Steve dedicated his career to serving others. He began his career with the American Red Cross in 1962, working as a caseworker on military installations. His work took him and his family to military posts throughout the United States, Europe, and Southeast Asia. Twenty years later, he became the Chief Executive Officer and Chapter Manager of the Greater Cleveland Chapter.

In Cleveland, he oversaw the launch of Operation Save-A-Life, which aimed to reduce injuries and deaths due to home fires by providing residents in at-risk neighborhoods with fire safety education and free smoke alarms and installations. That initiative was adopted by the Red Cross nationwide and millions of alarms were installed as a result.

Steve earned an MBA from the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota and served faithfully on the Board of Trustees of his beloved alma mater, Virginia Union University. He was also an active member of Antioch Baptist Church where he served in many roles including the Deacon Board and the Gospel and Sanctuary Choruses. Steve loved to sing!

He was a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and The Boulé (Sigma Pi Phi) in which he had many friends. He was a well-loved member of the community in the Cleveland, Ohio area where he spent the last forty years of his life. He finished his career as CEO of The Bullock Group.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents William Henry Bullock and Ida Mayo Bullock, his loving wife Doris Louise Elizabeth (Kelly) Bullock, and a host of brothers and sisters. Those left to cherish his memories are his children, Robyne (Michael), Eric (Cathy), Brian (Patricia), Kelly (Leroy), his grandchildren Antoinette (Devin), Brandon, Candace, Cameron (Kiley), Elizabeth, Marcus, Brianna, Steven, Blair, Kylee, his great-grandchildren Hendrix, Luna, Lennox and Leyton

Steve will also be lovingly remembered by his cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends and acquaintances.

Yesterday

I met Steve and Doris in Cleveland through Case Western Reserve university and our community friendships. Steve was instrumental in leading a major non-profit organization in Cleveland, The American Red Cross. When CWRU decided to start a masters degree in non-profit organizations Steve was there to add his knowledge and skills to the MNO degree program. The MNO made us colleagues at the university. What a joy to work with him.

Condolences to Steve´s family and to all of us who knew him. Thank you Steve for all you contributed to the lives of people around Cleveland and in your global practice and leadership.
