Steve Choban, 93, Hilton Head SC, previously of McDonald OH, passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 24, 2023 after a brief illness.
Born May 5, 1930 in Girard OH, Steve was the son of Joseph and Mary Gyurina Choban. A graduate of Girard High School, he served in the US Army from 1951 thru 1953. He was stationed in Germany and returned to marry Elizabeth Ferenczy in 1955. She was the center of his life for over 65 years until her death in 2020. He worked in the steel industry for 51 years, retiring from Republic Steel in 1996. He was an expert at keeping his lawn the pride of the neighborhood. He shared his Hungarian heritage through his paprikash and hazelnut tortes. He enjoyed reading, watching movies and his grandkids athletic events. In retirement he was quick to provide expertise on home repair/improvement projects and to let the grandkids cheat at cards. He moved to SC with Pat and Steve in 2021 and did not miss the cold.
Lovely memories live on with his two sons, Dr Stephen Choban (Pat) of Hilton Head SC and Dr Michael Choban (Nancy) of Westlake OH. He loved to be with his 6 grandchildren, Dr Lisa Choban (Dr Chris Woodard), Dr Lauren Choban, Leah Choban, Lydia Choban, CPT Joseph Choban (Tessa) and Christopher Choban. He believed knowing his five great grandchildren, Lyanna, Rhaena, Alice and Gabriel Choban and Eloise Woodard, was a gift.
Preceding him in death was his wife Elizabeth, parents, and brothers Joseph and Alexander Choban.
A joint funeral Mass for Steve and Elizabeth will be held at St Francis by the Sea Catholic Church, Hilton Head SC followed by interment at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort SC.
