Steve Fenderson died on Saturday, June 8, 2024, surrounded by his family, at the age of 75.
Steve was born on December 30, 1948, as the oldest child of Gail and Lil Fenderson. Steve grew up on the family farm in Meeker, Oklahoma, and graduated from Meeker High School as valedictorian in 1967.
Steve's lifelong love for his alma mater, Oklahoma State University, began at an early age. His father graduated from OSU, and Steve followed in his footsteps after high school. During his time at OSU, Steve was a member of ROTC. He served in the United States Army Reserves for several years after college, and left the Reserves as a Captain.
Steve received both his bachelor's and master's degrees in Chemical Engineering from Oklahoma State University. He began his career at Eastman Chemical, worked at Howe Baker Engineers and then worked for 28 years as a partner at Goar, Allison and Associates.
Steve married Regina Kay Westbrook on March 28, 1975. They were married for 49 years. Steve and Regina moved to Liberty City, Texas, early in their marriage and lived in the same house for 45 years. It was in this loving home that they raised their two boys, Adam and Aaron. Adam and Aaron also graduated with engineering degrees from OSU and loved cheering on their Cowboys with Dad!
Steve was a long-time, faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Longview, Texas. He served through many leadership positions and mission trips. He was a member and teacher of the New Beginnings Sunday School class for over 40 years, where he and Regina made lifelong friends.
Steve's commitment to service went beyond the church walls. He volunteered with Beds of Hope and Asbury House, where he served on the board for over 20 years. Steve, always a hard worker, used much of his leisure time to serve others.
In retirement, Steve enjoyed traveling with Regina, cheering on his Cowboys and being a loving Grandpa to his five beloved grandchildren. He was always Loyal and True - to the Cowboys and so much more to his family and the Lord.
Steve is survived by his wife, Regina Fenderson; his son Adam Fenderson and wife, Erica, and their children, Seth and Elinor; his son Aaron Fenderson and wife, Megan, and their children, Thomas, Madeline and Hope; his sister Patte Fenderson and husband, Bob Svec; his sister Francie Fenderson; his brother, John Fenderson, and wife, Peggy; as well as many other family members, nieces and nephews, and loving friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gail and Lilly May Fenderson, and his nephew Matthew Guderian.
Steve's funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at First United Methodist Church, in Longview, Texas. A time of visitation will follow in Cook Foyer. In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to consider donating to one of Steve's beloved charities, Asbury House Child Enrichment Center or Beds of Hope.
