Big Stone Gap, VA-Steve Guerrant, 65, beloved father of 7 children, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2025 at University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, TN.
Steve was born in Henderson, NC in 1959 to Jonny Frank Guerrant and Fayma Woodlief Guerrant Roberts. To know him was to love him, this best describes my husband, Steve. He was our handyman, our chief cook, great baker, not candy maker, lol. He was an avid Tarheel fan but most of all was a fan of his children and grandchildren. He was a young father, at age 17. His first born was a daughter and her name is Amy and his first son is Jeremy. He later moved from North Carolina to Michigan where Steve and I met. He worked at Castex Industries for years. We met in 1989 and married on June 28, 1990. We decided to move to Big Stone Gap in February of 1992. His first job in Virginia was working for Phillip Morris. Then he worked for years as a paper delivery person in the Southern section of Big Stone Gap. He retired from working as a custodian for the Wise County School System and custodian for Trinity United Methodist Church and Legion Memorial Methodist Church.
His last adventure was with his wife by owning a bakery "Guerrant Goodies."
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Jonny Frank Guerrant and In-laws that loved him like a son, Earl and Lois Kilgore.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Donna Guerrant; his mother, Fayma Woodlief Guerrant Roberts; his brothers, Ricky (Alicia) Guerrant, Kip (Karen) Guerrant; sisters, Brenda (Mickey) Medlin, Vickie Barker; nephews, Richard Guerrant, Jr., Chad and Justin Wright, Matthew Guerrant, Curtis Medlin; niece, Megan Mustian; his children, Amy Blalock (Jon), Jeremy Guerrant (Barbara), Steven Guerrant (Kaileigh), Donnie Guerrant, Nicholas Guerrant (Maggie), Bryce Guerrant and Joshua Guerrant (Donna). We also want to recognize our extended children, Adrion Jenkins, Jordon Young, Bryce Lane, Jordan Wyatt and Daemi Lester; grandchildren, Olivia Blalock, Sarah Blalock Davis (Patrick), Lillian Blalock, Matthew Guerrant, Atreyu Guerrant, Lucas Guerrant, Ryken Guerrant Gordon, Valen Guerrant Gordon, Aubrey Griffen (Paula), Logan Guerrant (Tiffany), Neyland Guerrant, Tatum Guerrant and Beckett Guerrant; great grandchildren, Opelia Davis, Valerie Jeffries and Troy Jeffries.
The family will receive friends 12:00 noon – 2:00 pm Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Avenue, W., Big Stone Gap, VA. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2:00pm.
The family wants to extend an invitation to the community to assist Donna and "Guerrant Goodies" in any way you can. You may send your offerings to Donna Guerrant, 322 Gilley Ave., E., Big Stone Gap, VA. 24219.
Gilliam Funeral Home and Crematory is honored to serve the Guerrant family.
