Steve Haase

 

Steve Haase, 71, of Jonesborough, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2022. Steve was born in Duluth, Minnesota in 1951. He attended Proctor High School, received a bachelor’s degree from Carleton College, master’s degree from Brown University, and PhD from Indiana University. Steve continued his education with post-doctorate study in geochemistry at Yale University.

Steve started his professional career at the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a research scientist. He later took advantage of the opportunity to work as a biohydrologist for The Nature Conservancy. His final years of professional work were as a subcontractor to DOE supporting their environmental restoration program in Oak Ridge, TN.

Steve enjoyed traveling, photography, gardening, growing orchids, music, and cooking, as well as the friendship of many. He was a kind-hearted, generous, and gentle soul with a wicked sense of humor. Most of all, he was a wonderful, loving husband.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Zelda Berg Haase.  Steve is survived by his wife, Helen Haase; their cat, Lilly; and brothers-in-law, Bill Hite and Rick (Susan) Hite, as well as a niece and numerous nephews.

A Celebration of Steve’s Life will be held at 11 a.m. on December 10, 2022, at the Jonesborough Presbyterian Church, 128 W. Main St., Jonesborough, TN. Visitation with the family will follow the service.
