Steve Hankins, a cherished member of the Cleveland community, passed away on March 16, 2025, at the age of 60. Born on October 17, 1964, in San Diego, California, Steve lived a life marked by dedication, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to his family, faith, and friends. As a carpenter in construction and manufacturing, Steve's skilled hands crafted not only buildings but also lasting relationships throughout his career. He was known for his strong work ethic and the artistry he brought to every project. His colleagues admired him not just for his craftsmanship but for the kindness he extended to everyone he met. Steve was also a proud musician, nurturing this passion alongside his professional life. His love for music was woven into the fabric of his daily existence, bringing joy to himself and those around him.
A man of deep faith, Steve proudly served as a missionary for the Assembly of God, actively participating as a leader in his church community. His dedication as a faithful servant to the LORD resonated with many, and he was beloved for his willingness to help and uplift others.
He is survived by his loving family. His sister Beth Allen, and her children, Tiffany Allen and Jeremy Allen. He also leaves behind his brother, Ben Hankins, and wife, Julia and their children and grandchildren, nephew Jesse Tucker and wife Jennifer, nephew Luke Hankins and wife Katie, along with their sons Isaac, Caleb, and Asher, niece Samantha Hankins, and nephew Jack Hankins. Steve's best friend, Benny Jones, was a constant source of companionship, sharing countless memories and experiences. In addition to his immediate family, Steve is survived by his church family, and a host of friends whose lives were touched by his generosity and spirit.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, John Hankins and Jane Hankins, to whom he owed much of his character and values. They instilled in him the importance of faith, integrity, and kindness—qualities that he displayed throughout his life.
Visitation for friends and family will be held on March 20, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Neal Funeral Home, located at 200 South Washington Avenue, Cleveland, Texas. A funeral service will take place the following day, March 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM, also at Neal Funeral Home. Interment will be at Fielder Cemetery, Lufkin, Texas.
Steve Hankins will be dearly missed but fondly remembered for his loving spirit, unwavering faith, and devotion to his family and friends. His legacy will continue to inspire all those who knew him.
