Steven Arthur Kellas, 64, of Lumberton, Texas passed away on July 24, 2024. Steve was born September 21, 1959 in Anchorage, Alaska to Wilfred (Bill) Kellas and Virginia Pickel Kellas.
Anyone who knows Steve knew he never slowed down. He worked for numerous oil drilling companies, both on and offshore. His job took him all over the world, and he picked up an understanding of several languages along the way. He was a wonderful provider for his family. Working a 28 days on 28 days off schedule was difficult, but he made the most of his off days. He spent time with family on vacations, and of course, his other love, beekeeping. Most days off you would find him out at his shop working on one beekeeping project or another. He loved sharing his knowledge of bees.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Kathy Chatelain Kellas; son, Zachary Kellas and daughter in law, Sydney of Edmond, Oklahoma; daughter, Candice Kellas Self and husband Gene of Temple Georgia; grandson, Trevor Self of Temple, Georgia; mother, Virginia Singleton of Beaumont, Texas; sister, Carol Hunt of Batson, Texas; sister, Rhonda Coe of Midland, Texas; brother, Bill Kellas and wife Brenda of Austin, Texas; sister, Vicki Brungardt and husband, Darren of Houston, Texas; Brother, Larry Kellas of Kountze, Texas; sister, Lien Brake and husband, Stephen of Pennsylvania; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Chester and Donna Chatelain of Lumberton, Texas; brother-in-law, Curt Chatelain of Lumberton, Texas; sister-in-law, Peggy Evans and husband Keith of Seale, Alabama; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, especially Hadlee and Talon Byrum who came by almost daily to coax a smile out of him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Wilfred (Bill) Kellas and grandson, Trenton Self.
Memorial contributions may be made to an organization of one's choice.
A gathering of Mr. Kellas' family and friends will be from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., with a time of sharing at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard's Crematorium. If you knew Steve, you know that a formal and melancholic service would not be his style. Please dress comfortably and bring your favorite Steve stories to share with others.
The family would like to thank Harbor Hospice, especially Keena and Paloma, along with Paradigm Kountze for their wonderful care and compassion. Also, his friend, Chris Robichaux, who has been there to lend a helping hand in whatever way he could.
