Steve Fredrick Kleinhans, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024, in Barrington, IL. Born on December 20, 1945, in Chicago, IL, Steve's life was a testament to the joy and love he brought to everyone around him. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Kleinhans; his daughter, Amber Axelson, and son-in-law Ethan; his adored grandchildren, Jakob, Kilynn, and Hailey; and his brother, Jeff Kleinhans, and sister-in-law Kathy. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lucile (Piper) Kleinhans.
Steve's life was one of dedication and joy. He married the love of his life, Linda Beck, on November 13, 1976, in a beautiful ceremony at Fredrick Lutheran Church in St. Thomas. Together, they created a life filled with adventure and happiness. Steve's passion for boating and his love for the water were evident to all who knew him. He imparted his skills and enthusiasm to his daughter, teaching her to water ski and sharing unforgettable trips to the Florida Keys and destinations up North.
An adoring family man, Steve's greatest pleasure was spending time with his grandchildren. He could often be found building forts out of boxes for them, proving that his creativity and resourcefulness knew no bounds. His belief that duct tape and string could fix anything became a running joke within the family, showcasing his playful and inventive spirit.
Steve's love for the outdoors, especially a good campfire and perfectly roasted marshmallow. His zest for life shone brightly during the holidays, especially at Christmas, when he would decorate with colorful lights, set up trains, and revel in the festive fun. The 4th of July was another favorite occasion for Steve, as it gave him the opportunity to display his fireworks expertise, much to the delight of family and friends.
Known for his generosity and hospitality, Steve always had your favorite pop ready when you stopped by for a visit, and he was renowned for making the best pancakes ever. His kindness was a beacon that drew people to him, and his humor and propensity for jokes made every gathering memorable.
Steve's legacy is one of love and generosity. He was the kind of person who would take care of everyone around him, often putting the needs of others before his own. Described by those who knew him as generous, kind, funny, a jokester, and a great friend, Steve's impact on the world was profound and lasting.
In every aspect of his life, Steve Kleinhans embodied the qualities of a loving, generous, and kind soul. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. Steve's life was a beautiful example of how to love, laugh, and live fully. He will be dearly missed, but his memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends.
Steve Fredrick Kleinhans lived a life full of passion, joy, and an unwavering commitment to his loved ones. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we celebrate the countless happy memories he created and the indelible mark he left on our lives. Rest in peace, Steve, and thank you for everything.
