Mr. Steve B. Mitchell

Steve Blake Mitchell, 63, passed away in Flint, MI on July 13, 2022.
Steve was born in California on August 4'. Steve was known for being laid back and mild mannered. He grew up in Flint, MI and was raised in the Catholic church. Steve attended schools within Flint that included attending private high school at Powers Catholic High School and later graduating fromSouthwestern Academy. In his late teens he met and later married Marie Viola Mitchell-Brantley in the summer of 1979. Although Marie had two children from a previous marriage, Steve loved Larry and Tracy as his children born to him. Steve and Marie had their son Steven L. Williams and then daughter Cheraire C. Mitchell (Lyons). Steve later had son Montez D. Mitchell with Sandra "San" Harris. Steve worked and retired from GM (Fisher
body) and was a member of the UAW in Flint, MI.
Over the next 3 decades Steve's family grew to 15 grandchildren (Steven Williams, Roddres Williams, Tatiarra Williams, Cherod Williams, Xavier Lyons, Tristan Williams, Waken Williams, Nadia, Jada Mitchell, Ja' Kiana, Tranay, Tamia, Danielle, LaZaria, T.J and great-grand-children Steven and Nova. Steve loved his children and grandchildren and they all loved him so much.
Steve loved to play dominos, pinochle, tonk, spades, chess and listening to Keith Sweat and music from gospel to R&B. He loved playing basketball with his grandsons and watching his favorite basketball team the Golden State Warriors. Throughout his life he enjoyed walking or being outside. He enjoyed being somewhere he had peace of mind. He also enjoyed telling a few jokes and making slick comments. He was always smiling or grinning while he winked his eye. He had a great sense of humor and his calming energy was always a balance. He was a very supportive father as he was always there for every significant moment from high school graduations to being a proud father at the college graduations. He was there for the birth of his grandchildren and taught both his sons and grandsons how to play and understand the seriousness of chess. He made sure he was there no matter what. Steve was a part of a bowling league (AMF of Flint, MI) for years and shared his love of the game with his children. Both Cheraire and Montez joined bowling leagues as young children, but Montez took to the game and played throughout high school. Steve also enjoyed playing the lottery and believed you had to play to win. Although he grew up Catholic, he later chose to be Baptiste and attended varies churches before becoming a member at First Presbyterian Church in Flint, MI in his 40's. Steve was an active member of his church being a driver of the limousines, on the deacon board, and served as security when called upon by his church. Steve began pursuing a professional career in owning a limousine business but later decided he wanted to travel. Steve enjoyed traveling and would ensure he traveled multiple times throughout the year to visit his children and grandchildren in Arizona and later Atlanta when his daughter and youngest son moved to Georgia. He also frequently traveled to spend time with his sister Pam and their mother Dorothy in Maryland. His children and grandchildren meant the world to him. His family enjoyed countless memories of him that will continue to live on through his children and grandchildren.
Steve was one of a kind and was known to all who knew him as the coolest most laid-back guy that
enjoyed his life. He was genuine and spoke his mind. His motto was- "Don't sweat the small stuff, breathe and think." Steve was always the one that was quiet but watching everyone around him and he always wanted to be wherever his children were.
Steve is survived by his children Steven (Violet) Williams of Tempe, AZ, Cheraire (Robert) Lyons of Conyers, GA, Montez Mitchell of Conyers, GA, Larry Williams of Flint, MI; Tracy Williams of
San Antonio, TX; mother Dorothy Mitchell and siblings Robert, Ray, Brenda and Pam Mitchell along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, uncles and friends.
