Obituary For Steve "Monkey" Salazar
Steve "Monkey" Salazar, 62, a lifetime resident of Sierra County, died in Las Cruces on Friday, February 9, 2024. He was born on October 26, 1961, in Truth or Consequences, NM to Salvador and Benina Rivera Salazar. He worked as a Project Engineer and retired in 2022. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose 2050, Moose Legionnaire, NM Cattle Association, and Cowboys for Cancer. He enjoyed riding horses, ranching, and camping. He loved to take a drive while listening to good country music, just to go sightseeing, or going to the casino. Steve was most content spending time with his family, especially his grandson and great-grandkids, and visiting with friends. Steve possessed a huge heart that will be missed beyond measure.
Steve is survived by his wife of 26 years, Ruby G. Salazar; stepson, Andy Tapia; his fur babies, Bud and Lucy; grandson: Cody Tapia (Chelsea LeClair); great grandchildren: Andrea LeClair and Clayton Tapia; Siblings: Lawerence Salazar, Peter Salazar, Dora Salazar, Isabel Salazar, Sally Salazar; nephews: Cris Armijo and Rick Armijo; sister-in-law, Dolores Rivera; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Salvador and Benina Salazar; Siblings: Connie Carr, Nellie Rivera, Dorothy Markland, Richard Rivera, Johnny Rivera, and Paul Salazar; and nephew, Robert Armijo; parents in law, Elerico and Lula Gurule and his beloved dog, Whisky Boy.
A Celebration of Steve's life will take place on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Elephant Butte RV Park Event Center. He will be laid to rest following at Vista Memory Garden Cemetery. Send flowers to the service of Steve "Monkey" Salazar
