Steve Spolar, 73, from
Harmarville, PA, and residing in Kittanning, passed away in the Veteran's Hospital in Pittsburgh, on May 14, 2024, from complications from pneumonia. Steve was born on January 29, 1951, to the late Carl and Jean (Intorre) Spolar. Steve attended Springdale High School and went on to become an expert in concrete and masonry construction work. He served in the Army in the Vietnam War and was a sincere patriot, always wearing a U.S. flag or pin and hats that supported our Armed Forces and country.
In the 1970s, after working in the coal mines, Steve moved to Las Vegas where he remained for 26 years. His first job there was working in casinos, but his love of the outdoors moved him onto a partnership in a landscaping business and eventually into masonry work doing construction on houses and on some of the casinos on the Strip. Steve was highly respected in his field. He was sought out by contractors, providing valuable leadership to whom he worked and with the mutual respect of his colleagues, he eventually was promoted. Steve moved back to his hometown of Harmarville in 2003 and finally settled in Kittanning.
Steve was a Christian, very faithful, and resilient. His personality was defined by his love of God and his enthusiasm for studying the Bible and sharing his Lord's love and salvation message to all. When called on, Steve was always ready to help those in need. In the church, he was the first to raise his hand and give his time to the Pastor. If you had a flat tire or broke down on the road, he would be the first to stop. If you called him on the phone, he would be at your door before you hung up. Steve viewed life and people through the eyes of the love of God. He always saw the good in people, never gossiping or condemning them for things they did, or didn't do. He will fondly be remembered for his love of a good Western movie, old cars, the collecting of colognes, Christian rings, crosses, and watches. Most of all though, we will remember the testimony of Steve's life. It will live in our hearts forever as an example of a person who went through great trials, testing, and tribulations, but never walked away from his Lord. Rather, he remained true to Him and for 40 years never stopped praying, reading the Bible, or praising Jesus' name to all those who the Lord brought across his path. He surely will hear those words, " Well done good and faithful servant."
Steve is survived by his siblings, Charlotte (Spolar) Potts (husband Tom), Richard Spolar (wife Charlene), and Donna (Spolar) Porter; children, Kelly Furman (husband John), Michelle Gray (husband Tom), and Stephen James (wife Tina); grandchildren, Mary Andejko, Daniel Andejko, Samantha Rihn, and Ricky Rihn; great-grandchildren, Kaeden Andejko and Lena Ehnot; niece, Carla Porter, and nephew, Thomas Potts Jr.
A Celebration of Life memorial will be held at a later date for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Stevie's name to any of these preferred organizations: Tunnel to Towers,
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or your local Veteran's Association.
Our family sends a special and heartfelt "Thank You" to all of the Veteran's Association personnel.
