Steve J. Squiric, 96, of Plano, Texas, formally of Niles, Ohio, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025, at home. He passed on peacefully. Steve was born June 23, 1928, in McDonald, Ohio to parents Steve and Sarah Lillian (Krepic) Squiric.
Steve left school at 16 to work at Republic Steel in Warren, Ohio. He joined the army in October of 1945, he lied about his age. He served 3 years with the 7th Geodetic Squadron Army Air force and was honorably discharged in September of 1948. He returned to work at Republic Steel for his entire working career. He was a strong Union man. He would say we wouldn't have anything if not for the union.
He married Phyllis V. (Candelore) Squiric on October 21, 1950. She passed on July 29, 2023.
Steve was a good provider. He sold Fuller Brushes early on to make ends meet. He lived his entire life in the Niles, Ohio area, for which he had great fondness, until moving to Plano, Texas in his later years.
He enjoyed fishing, playing cards with friends, and vegetable gardening. If you asked him how he was doing he would sometimes say, "I'm alright, the world's wrong."
Steve is survived by children Rick Squiric and wife Laurie of Warrensburg, Missouri, Nancy Witkowski of Plano, Texas, William Squiric and wife Myrna of Plano, Texas, John Squiric and wife Lisa of Prosper, Texas; 9 grandchildren - Emily Smith, Jeffrey Squiric, Geoffrey Burrows, Amy Awad, Elena Littleton, Alise Squiric, Phillip Squiric, James Squiric, and Angela Squiric and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Ann Cline of Niles, Ohio, and three brothers, Bob Squiric of Niles, Ohio, Ron Squiric and Chuck Squiric of Mineral Ridge, Ohio.
Steve was laid to rest with his wife Phyllis on January 11, 2025, at All Souls Cemetery in Courtland, Ohio.
