Steven Barnard Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cabot & Sons Funeral Home on Mar. 3, 2025.
In Loving Memory of Steven William Barnard
1955-2025
Steven William Barnard of San Dimas, CA, passed away on February 21, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with ALS. He was born in Lynwood CA, to Robert (Bob) and Frances Barnard, who preceded him in death.
Steve was an incredible father and husband, a devoted and loving family man who always put his loved ones first. He cherished his role as "Papa" to his grandchildren, finding immense joy in their laughter, milestones and special moments together. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering belief in the good in people left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
A gifted athlete, Steve excelled in baseball, basketball, and football at San Dimas High School. His talents earned him a full football scholarship to Azusa Pacific University where he continued to shine.
Steve built a successful career, retiring in 2019 as Western Regional Sales Director from Wheaton/Bekins Van Lines. In retirement, he embraced his love of golf, playing several times a week and traveling to courses across the country. One of his most cherished memories was in Scotland, playing the Old Course at St Andrews, the worlds oldest golf course.
Beyond golf, Steve had a passion for travel. He visited all but three U.S. states and explored Europe extensively, including a memorable 3 month post college trip with his cousin Kirk, living on just $15 a day. His journeys also took him to Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Iceland and many other incredible destinations.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Anne Bourque, his daughters Katherine Barnard Roberts (Chris) and Laura Barnard DeHart (Chad) and his cherished grandchildren, William, Owen, Jacob and Olivia. He also leaves behind his stepchildren Elizabeth Torrez (Jenny), and Greg Torrez, along with his step grandson Blaize Torrez. Steve is also survived by his brother Mike Barnard (Marva): his sister, Diane Briggs (Mike): and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Steve's legacy is one of love, generosity, and an unwavering positive spirit. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Cabot & Sons Funeral Home, 27 Chestnut Street, Pasadena, CA, followed by a luncheon at Annandale Golf Club, One North San Rafael Ave, Pasadena, CA.
In lieu of flowers for those interested in donating, Steve requested that donations to either the ALS Association or City of Hope National Medical center in Duarte CA. be made in his memory.

Steve was a true gentleman even in high school. I kept score for the basketball team and he was a great player. Always personable, a smile on his face, and an overall good energy!
I was shocked to just read he had passed. My prayers are going out to his family.

I came to know Steve Barnard in 1970 when San Dimas High School opened its doors for the first time. And we shared a friendship during the 54+ years that followed, always picking up where we left off when we´d talk or see each other. Steve´s good nature and easy going personality made it simple to do that. And those traits endeared him to pretty much everyone who knew him.
As Anne, Katie, Laura, Mike, Diane, and all of his other family and friends pay honor to him and celebrate his life on March 28th, I´ll be joining you in spirit, grateful to have known such a friend.

Anne and family, our hearts are breaking with you. We LOVED Steve and always enjoyed his visits to the Bay Area, getting together at the Wheaton/Bekins conferences and chatting about the Dodgers and Giants. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word and will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Always keep that wonderful smile in your hearts. With sympathy and love, Val & Wick - AMS Bekins
