Steven Richard Bennett, known affectionately to friends and family as Steve, left this world for his eternal voyage on April 11, 2025, at his home in
Phenix City, Alabama. Born on May 17, 1964, in San Diego, California, Steve's life was a testament to his enduring love for his family, his passion for life, and his unwavering service to his country.
Steve's early years in California were marked by the love and guidance of his parents, Richard and Janice Bennett, his sister, Sharon Broxton, and his brother, Jeremy Brown. Though his mother, Cynthia Dianne Risdon Smith, preceded him in death, her spirit and lessons remained an integral part of his character. After completing his education, Steve answered the call of duty by serving in the U.S. Navy during Desert Storm, where he demonstrated the courage and commitment that would define his character.
Upon returning to civilian life, Steve's heart found its true compass in his beloved wife, Kristal Lynn Bennett. Together, they navigated the joys and challenges of life, welcoming his daughter Heather Bennett and son Richard Christopher Bennett. The birth of his granddaughter, Ava Rae Simon, introduced Steve to the cherished role of "Pop-Pops," a title he wore with pride and joy.
Steve's personal and professional lives were characterized by a sense of service and a knack for problem-solving. His love for cats was well-known, particularly his affection for his feline companion, Kninja. His selfless nature was most evident in his dedication to his family, for whom he would move mountains to ensure their happiness and well-being.
In his leisure, Steve was an avid photographer, capturing moments of beauty and significance through his lens. His culinary skills were legendary among those who had the pleasure of tasting his cooking and baking creations. Steve's interests extended to the intricacies of electronics and the satisfaction of repairing anything in need. His voice was often heard over the airwaves as a HAM radio enthusiast and a proud member of the GMRS club.
Those who knew Steve will forever remember him as a man of humor, intelligence, and selflessness. He had a unique ability to light up a room with his wit and to offer insightful advice that seemed to cut through life's complexities. Steve was the kind of person who made a lasting impression, not through grand gestures but through the consistent, everyday acts of kindness that exemplified his character.
Steve's legacy is carried on by his loving family: his wife, Kristal Lynn Bennett; his children, Heather Bennett and Richard Christopher Bennett; his granddaughter, Ava Rae Simon; his sister, Sharon Broxton; his stepbrother, Jeremy Brown; and his father and stepmother, Richard and Janice Bennett. Each of them will continue to honor his memory by living out the values he instilled in them.
As we bid farewell to Steven Richard Bennett, we reflect on a life lived with purpose and devotion. His journey may have concluded on this earth, but his spirit remains a guiding light for all who were fortunate enough to know him. Steve's memory will be cherished and celebrated, as he has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
