Steven Wray Buchanan, 52, of Port Haywood, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, after a long illness. He was a lifelong citizen of Mathews, County. Steve graduated from Mathews High School in 1991. He was a Certified Master Auto Mechanic and worked at Grovers Auto Repair for 25 years. He also worked for the Transportation Department of Mathews School System until he became disabled.
He was preceded in death by his father, Nelson Buchanan, and a sister, Lori Ann Buchanan.
He is survived by his mother, Connie H. Shelton (Preston); one brother, Kevin W. Buchanan (Rachel); one aunt, Geneva Sue Munn, and a niece, Aimee L. Respress.
Interment will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the Mathews Volunteer Department, P.O. Box 1130, Mathews, Virginia 23109 0r to the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Department, 94 Cricket Hill Road, Hudgins, Virginia 23076. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, is assisting the family.
