Steven Marcus (Mark) Butler, 52, of Merit, TX, passed away unexpectedly on April 16 surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Samuel Glenn officiating. Visitation will be 1:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be at Merit Cemetery.
Mark was born on September 9, 1970 to Don Butler and Beryl Johnson Butler in Mount Pleasant, TX. After Mark graduated from Bland High School in 1989, he went on to join the United States Army in 1990.
During his time in the Army, Mark spent a few years in Germany, serving as a heavy-wheeled vehicle mechanic. After his time in the Army, he went on to continue his career as a diesel mechanic.
In 2006, Mark married the love of his life, Serena, combining their families to 7, including Marcus, Donovan, Aaron, Amanda and Skyler.
Mark was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time with his family outdoors; shooting guns with his kids, bow hunting, drinking a nice glass of whiskey with his brother, and talking about the good times around a campfire. He was happiest when on his tractor cutting hay alongside his wife and taking care of their farm animals. Mark enjoyed listening to Texas country music, reloading ammunition, and tinkering with all things mechanical. He was generous with his time and would help out anyone that needed a helping hand.
Mark is survived by his wife, Serena Butler, children, Amanda Gilliam, Marcus Butler, Donovan Butler, Skyler Gibson, Aaron Butler and wife Cheylynn Butler and parents, Don and Beryl Butler. Forever remembered by his brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Kaye Butler, and aunts, uncles, cousins, and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be LeRoy Burchinal, Jr., Shane Brooks, David Cummings, William Casey Butler, Roy Peters, Samuel Peters, Jason Campbell, and Nathan Roberts.
