Steven "Steve" Cathcart passed away peacefully in Loveland on January 15, 2025 at the age of 59.
He was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 31, 1965. At the age of 11, he moved to Pueblo, Colorado and graduated from Pueblo County High School in 1983. He attended Western State University in Gunnison, Colorado, where he had a successful running career. At his time in college, he was a three-time All American and a national champion with the Cross-Country team, finishing in the top ten. Steve was inducted into the Western State Hall of Fame and Greater Pueblo Sports Association Hall of Fame. His national championship team was inducted into the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Hall of Fame. Steve spent two seasons coaching at Western State from 1987-88, then at La Junta High School from 1989-1992, and lastly at New Mexico Highlands University from 1993-1995.
Steve married Gidget Lucero at age 26 and they had three children. His family moved to Loveland, Colorado in 1996 and Steve began his career at Hewlett-Packard as a Manufacturing Supervisor for the Integrated Circuit Business Division. The family moved to Fort Collins, Colorado in 1997, where Steve co-owned Rocky Mountain Running Company, currently known as the Runners Roost in Fort Collins. He managed the Runners Roost for over a decade and made a positive impact on the Fort Collins running community. Steve helped create and co-owned the Colorado Marathon, which the city still hosts every year. He founded the sport cross country for public middle schools around Fort Collins and was a coach at the Fort Collins Club.
A humanitarian at heart, Steve always shared his time and resources to give back to the local community, especially into the homeless shelters and Soup Kitchens throughout Northern Colorado. He was very passionate for volunteering with the Special Needs community, by advocating for their sports programs. Steve was a very outdoorsy individual, which included hobbies such as hiking, camping, fishing and skiing. His big personality always made others laugh with his witty jokes, but also cared for everyone around him. He always wanted to serve others and was very generous.
Steve is survived by his mother Dee, aunt Mary, brother Brian, daughter Briana, and his two sons Chris and Jon. He was preceded in death by his father Terry.
A celebration of Steve's life will be held at Viegut Funeral Home in Loveland, Colorado on Saturday, January 25th at 10:30am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial tributes be made to the House of Neighborly Service to serve local underprivileged and homeless communities.

I was surprise to learned about him. When he started to work at Hewlett-Packard I taught him how to do machine years ago and later he was my good boss. I visit he store called Roast Runner. I taught him how to sign language we can commute each other well because I am deaf. I miss him dearly. Pray for his family God be with them He is happy home in Heaven.

Steve organized the training runs for the Colorado Marathon at the Bud plant. After the runs he would sweep the run course with his van to make sure everyone got back safely, I´ll always remember that.

Steve helped me get into coaching middle school cross country. I appreciate all the advice and support he gave me. Our boys ran at the same time and I always enjoyed talking to him at meets. He always had a big smile and a good story to share.
