Steven Cleveland Obituary
Published by Legacy on Aug. 15, 2025.
Steven John Cleveland of Harrison Township, affectionately known as Steve to his family and friends, passed away unexpectedly on August 3, 2025, at the age of 51. Born on December 21, 1973, in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Steve was the first son of Frances and the late John P Cleveland. Steve was a man of vibrant spirit and indomitable courage. He had a love for life and believed in living every moment to the fullest.
Steve's early years were spent in Harper Woods and Shelby Township, Michigan, but his adventurous soul led him to serve his country with honor and dedication. He attended boot camp in Illinois and proudly served in the United States Navy from 1992 to 1998. Steve was recognized for his superior service, intellectual abilities, and his mechanical skills by the United States Navy.
His time in the service took him to various duty stations, including Jacksonville, Florida and Pax River, Maryland. While serving, he was able to see much of the world and shared those stories frequently with friends and loved ones. He would often reference his Mediterranean tour of duty, such as Egypt, Greece, Italy, and Malta. In fulfilling a bucket list item, Steve was able to return to one of his favorite locations, Rhodes Greece, with his Daughter, Mother, and close friends in 2023.
Following his military service career, Steve returned to his roots in Michigan, where he became a beloved figure in his community. His love for life was infectious, and he could often be found snowmobiling, boating, or repairing anything that needed fixing. Countless acquaintances benefitted from his talent and generosity in repairing small engines.
Steve's family was the cornerstone of his existence. He leaves behind his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Amber and Jason Morgan of New Haven, along with their expected daughter, Josie, who will surely hear tales of her grandfather's adventurous spirit. His mother, Frances Cleveland of Shelby Township, will miss her son's unwavering strength and kindness. Steve's siblings-Michelle (Mike) Safron of Emmett, Peter Cleveland (Darren Goudeau) of Shelby Township, and Catherine (Eric) Linsmeier of Larsen, Wisconsin-will cherish the memories of the brother who always brought laughter and love into their lives. Steve was also an adored uncle to many nieces and nephews, each of whom he held dear to his heart. Steve also leaves behind his two beloved dogs, Domino and Tank, whom he dedicated his days to loving and caring for endlessly. They will miss the warmth and comfort of their owner's presence.
Steve's life was a testament to the joy of simple pleasures and the importance of family and close friends. Steve's legacy will live on through the stories shared by those who knew him best-the tales of his bravery, his generosity, and his ability to make the most out of every moment. As we bid farewell to Steve, we will not mourn his death but instead we will celebrate a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a man who changed the lives of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Cremation arrangements are by Grace Memorial, Clinton Twp. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
