Steven Patrick Cornish died April 25, 2025 after a full 66 years, in the loving arms of his wife of 32 years, Elizabeth; in their home in Baldwin, NY. He is survived by his son Samuel, his sister Beth, a trove of brother and sister-in laws, nieces and nephews, treasured friends, and extended family. He grew up in Rome, NY with his sister Beth and late brothers Kevin, Brian and Scott, mother Dolores and father Frank.
Steve was a loving and beloved husband, father, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. He loved music, animals, nature, poetry and his family. Steve's focus and discipline for things he was passionate about was palpable to those who knew him at work, in his musical pursuits, and all of the people that made up his big giant birth family, married family and chosen family among all of his deep friendships.
He achieved his Masters of Fine Arts, Creative Writing/Poetry from Columbia University and is published in various poetry journals.
He loved his work and his co-workers all over the world at the American National Standards Institute and all activities and committees he contributed to during his decades of service.
With Steve's passing the world has become a duller place, but we ask that you all shine a light in the days ahead for someone who needs it in Steve's memory.
You can join Steve's family at Mackens Mortuary for visitation on Tuesday, April 29, from 4:00-8:00 pm - 52 Clinton Avenue Rockville Centre, NY.
A funeral mass is planned for Wednesday, April 30, at 10:45 am at Saint Agnes Cathedral - 29 Quealy Place, Rockville Centre, NY. A livestream is available at mackenmortuary.com for those that cannot join the family in person. The funeral mass will be followed by interment at Queen of Peace Cemetery - 321 Jericho Turnpike, Old Westbury, NY (beneath a couplet of pink and white flowering trees).
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund (gorillafund.org) or the Rome Arts and Community Center (romeart.org).

April 29, 2025

Steve was an amazing person. One piece of an amazing family that took me in as one of their own. I feel a sadness of losing someone who I was close to from a time when I didn't know what being close to someone really meant. I'd not be the person I am today had it not been for him, Sam and Elizabeth. My deepest condolences to you both and I wish nothing but bright moments in the years ahead. Love, Matt Pidgeon
