Steven L. Dickey, 81, of
Nampa, Idaho, succumbed to glioblastoma brain cancer on December 11, 2023, in
Glendale, Arizona with his loving family near.
Steve was born on August 2, 1942, in Price, Utah to Leonard and Beryl Dickey. He grew up with much love for his mother, brother Stuart and three sisters, Eloise, Elma and Colleen. Steve was a signalman in the US Navy from 1962 - 1968 and served on the guided missile destroyer ship, USS Conyngham DDG-17. During his time in Virginia with the Navy, he married Sue O'Brian and had three children, Steven Jr., Matthew and Laura, raising them in
Kuna, Idaho. Later, he married his "True North" and sweetheart of 35 years, Toinette Browne, and became a father to her 3-year-old daughter, Allison, and stepfather to Toni's grown children, Evelyn, David, Linda and Tonia.
Steve was a talented welder and loved making beautiful beds, arbors, bird feeders and railings, which can be spotted all over the Magic Valley. He was a proficient HAM radio operator and loved target shooting and training German Shepherds. Steve had a terrific, silly sense of humor and loved teasing his children with elaborate, made-up stories. He enjoyed dancing with Toni and rocking out to Abba, Enya and The Bangles. A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Steve had a strong church family and loved sharing his testimony with friends and strangers alike.
Steve will join his mother; sisters Elma and Eloise; and sweetheart, Toni, who passed in June of 2022. He is survived by his brother, Stuart; sister, Colleen; sons, Steve Jr and Matthew; his daughters, Laura and Allison; his 6 grandchildren: Parker, Tyler, Payton, Zachary, Eli and Ian; and one great grandchild, Paxton.
Steve was always a missionary and is eagerly continuing his work of testifying of Christ on the other side.
