Steven Lee Freeborn (Opie), born October 18, 1956, passed away on March 16, 2025, in Bakersfield, California. Following a career as a truck driver, Steve recently retired. He was an avid sports enthusiast, with a particular passion for baseball and NASCAR. In his free time, Steve enjoyed playing the guitar and had recently taken up the harmonica. He is survived by his children, Jason Freeborn, Johnathan Freeborn, and Joseph Freeborn; granddaughters Freeborn and Aliana Freeborn; great-grandchildren Leilani Lucero and Amiri Watkins; brothers Larry Freeborn, David Freeborn, and Greg Freeborn; and sister-in-law Marshell Freeborn. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Norma Jean Freeborn and George Leland Freeborn. Steve will be greatly missed by all who loved him! A celebration of life will be announced shortly.
