Steven Gaines Obituary
Born in Kansas City in 1960, Steve and his family moved frequently for his father's job, but landed permanently in White Bear Lake prior to attending middle school. Steve was an avid fisherman of the nearby lakes, a big sports fan, proudly sarcastic, and fiercely loyal - which explains why he was blessed with so many wonderful friends over the years.
Steve often spoke about how having a son "changed the course of his life forever." Speaking as his son, I can say my father had a profoundly positive impact on my life. Countless fishing trips up to the North Shore and Dad's favorite lake Mille Lacs, abundant support, advice, guidance, and wisdom... I have valued every moment of it.
Later in life, Steve would be forced into early retirement due to a cancer diagnosis. Over the six years that he was on chemo, Steve achieved his dream of owning a cabin on a lake, and spent his days restfully fishing and wood working. Steve gave that cancer everything he had and refused to let it slow him down. He showed tremendous strength, and never gave up the fight.
Steve is survived by his son, Nic and brother, Joseph.
Steve is preceded in death by his mother Janice, father James, and sister Dawn.

Sending heartfelt condolences from his neighbors on Lake Washburn. Steve loved to venture out at sunset for one last catch. We’ll miss seeing his peaceful silhouette across the water. Rest in Peace, Steve-o.❤ ~ Sue & Chris Sullivan and Family
