Steven Grabowski

Steven Grabowski was born August 1, 1954 and passed away August 2, 2023 at age 69 in San Diego.
Steven was born in Hartford, Connecticut and grew up in nearby Windsor.
Steve is survived by his wife, Maria Kass, son Travis Grabowski, son Justin Grabowski, sister Joan Ruffennach of Mesa, AZ and brother Chuck Grabowski (Maureen) of West Harford, CT, as well as, many nieces and nephews, he was predeceased by his parents Chester J and Jean M Grabowski of Windsor, CT.
Steven graduated from high school at Suffield Academy in Suffield, CT where he also played sports. He also attained the recognition of Eagle Scout, Steven then graduated from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1979 and where he wrestled. He enjoyed college, and in his sophomore semester signed up for a Romantic Poets night class where he met his beloved wife, Maria. They were married in Natick, MA at Valentine's in 1985. They enjoyed 38 years of a loving marriage and partnership.
Steve enjoyed visiting extended family on Cape Cod, Massachusetts through the years, often spending summer days swimming and kayaking in the ocean with his kids, nieces, nephews and friends.
Steve later moved to Tucson, AZ where he began his career at the Pima County Government Transportation Department.
Later he moved to San Diego, CA working for several on many large public works and construction projects. He worked as a consultant for Dudek Engineering in construction engineering overseeing major projects quality control and inspection fields. He later worked for several government agencies including the City of Poway, retiring after many years of service at the Padre Dam Municipal Water District in 2016.
A Rancho Penasquitos resident for 38 years, he enjoyed supporting youth, high school and college sports. He volunteered for many years, coaching and managing soccer, basketball, football and Little League baseball teams for his sons. Steve was always there with a cooler of drinks, joined the boards, dragged the fields and carpooled players. Steve was a Westview High School football volunteer.
Recently, Steve volunteered at the Poway Food Bank.
Steve also leaves his dear granddaughter, Berlin Grabowski, to whom he was her 'Grampy' and was his pride and joy. In his retirement he doted on Berlin and faithfully watched over, getting her to activities, taking her for long walks and to their favorite spots at Torrey Pines Beach and the playground.
Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Steven will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11am, Thursday, August 17, 2023 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Poway. Interment will follow at Dearborn Memorial Park.
