Steven Hugh Graf, a beloved member of the Homelake community, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on January 17, 1937, in Spokane, Washington, Steven was a resident of Homelake, Colorado since 2017, having moved from Santa Fe, New Mexico. He will be remembered for his sharp wit, sarcastic humor, and deep appreciation for Native American art and jewelry.
A proud Marine Corps veteran, Steven enlisted on August 16, 1954, and served until January 10, 1958, achieving the rank of Private. His time in the military as a cook sparked a lifelong passion for baking, leading him to open his own bakery and ultimately sharing his talents within the community, including decorating large birthday cakes for residents at Homelake.
Steven was known for his private and quiet nature, often seen going for walks and enjoying the simple beauty of his surroundings. He had a soft spot for animals, particularly a wild cat he took under his wing, ensuring it was well fed and cared for. A member of the American Legion, he actively contributed to his community, demonstrating a generous heart by supporting various shelters for the homeless in Santa Fe and donating to the Veterans for Peace Organization.
Steven leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and a unique approach to life, which included a love for collecting magazines. He touched the lives of many through his thoughtful gestures and contributions.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday August 20 at the Homelake Veterans Cemetery. Friends, family, and community members are invited to gather to share stories and celebrate the remarkable life of a man who will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to local shelters or veterans' organizations in Steven's memory, reflecting his deep commitment to helping those in need.
