"All people die, but not all people live.."
This statement truly sums up the life of Steven Charles. He brought nothing but adventure, endless laughter, and few good drinks into every life he touched.
Steve was born and raised in St. Ann's Bay, Jamaica. A lover of the deep blue sea, wild animals, birds, butterflies, and hiking and exploring the bush. He loved and respected all living things.
Imagine having a tamed mongoose living in your home, yes he did! Jenny was her name. As a boy, he captured, tamed, and made Jenny (the mongoose) his household pet.
His adventures didn't cease once he became a father, instead, the adventure continued with his two daughters by his side. He never left them out. He would carry his daughters off on hikes for hours, along the beach, up in the hills, to old great houses, through the bush, exploring Jamaica's hidden gems, introducing them to goats, birds, lizards, and old folklore. Chatting with whoever they met along the way.
Life was never dull with Steve around. As he touched down on the island, they knew it was time for road. Road trips, adventure, rum bar, and unforgettable tales and laughter. He made a friend everywhere he went.
He was the kindest guy around. Always giving a helping hand without expectation. One of a kind!
Steve packed so much life into his 72 years, he traveled, chased his dreams, worked in a profession he loved, fell in love, raised two beautiful daughters, and was the greatest grandfather to two amazing granddaughters whom he adores. And still put one foot in front of the other to battle what he knew was an incurable disease.
He did this with dignity, integrity, and courage to the very end surrounded by his loving family.
Although we may no longer physically see Steve, we believe he has left an indelible mark on so many of our lives.
He is missed. From his troublesome ways, to the love and attention he gave his family and for all he shared with anyone he met.
One in a million, a special type of guy.
"Guys like us" - Fishers
Steve would want us to remember him with a smile rather than a tear (incredibly hard) but, he is free of pain resting with his Heavenly Father.
Steve is survived by his wife Joan, daughters Shika and Shani, and granddaughters Jai Li and Nyala. As well as numerous cherished relatives and amazing friends.
