Steven Gurule, affectionately known to many as Devo or Uncle Buck, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 18, 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He is preceded in death by grandparents: Erminio Gurule, Sr., Mary Agnes Gurule, Thomas R. Clew, Mable Clew, and sister, Francesca Baca.
Steven "Devo" is survived by his father Erminio Gurule, Jr.; mother Sabrina Yvonne Gurule; brother Carlos Gurule; son Malachi Gurule; fiancée Claudia Hernandez and her children Juande and Blanquita, also a host of nephews and nieces.
Born on November 16, 1991, Steven filled his years with a profound love for animals, family, and the simple joys of life. He was 33 years old at the time of his passing.
A devoted Catholic, Steven found solace in his faith and often expressed this through his compassionate outlook towards all living beings. His love for animals encompassed a variety of creatures—birds, dogs, ducks, and goose. To him, these animals were not just pets; they were cherished members of the family that filled his life with joy and laughter.
Steven had a vibrant personality that resonated with anyone who knew him. He shared a particular fondness for the music of the 80s and 90s, often found reminiscing over the iconic melodies that defined his youth. Additionally, he was an avid fan of the Raiders, demonstrating his enthusiasm for both sports and community.
His passion extended into his interest in jewelry and race cars, reflecting his unique style and zest for life. Family meant everything to Steven—he surrounded himself with loved ones and ensured that every moment shared with them was cherished. His ability to connect, laugh, and create lasting memories will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we come together to honor Steven's life, family and friends are invited to join in a series of services to celebrate his remarkable spirit. Steven's Life Celebration will begin with a Rosary to be recited on Monday, April 28, 2025, at 1:00pm at Salazar Mortuary located at 400 Third St. SW, 87102. Service will begin at 1:30pm. Steven will be laid to rest following the Service at San Jose de Armijo Cemetery located at 2957 Arenal Road SW, 87121. Reception will follow inside Salazar Mortuary's Event Center.
Steven Gurule's memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the honor of sharing their lives with him. His legacy of kindness, passion for animals, and deep love for family will forever be remembered and celebrated.
