Dr. Steven K. Juhn passed away peacefully in Briarcliff Manor, New York, on July 10, 2025, at the age of 92. He was born on December 18, 1932, in Daegu, South Korea, to Hoyul Juhn & Kwijoo Kim.
After receiving his medical degree from Kyungpook National University and a master's in biochemistry from Seoul National University, Dr. Juhn was awarded a fellowship in 1962 to study at the University of Bologna in Italy. In 1963, he moved to Germany, where he continued his medical training for five years at the University of Hamburg and the University of Düsseldorf.
In 1967, Dr. Juhn immigrated to the United States and joined the University of Minnesota Medical School in the Department of Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose, Throat) where he served as a professor and devoted the next fifty years to research and teaching before retiring at the age of 85.
Dr. Juhn is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jane; his children Peter (Rachel), Martin (Jay), and Paul (Aleece); and his five beloved grandchildren, Mina, Sunna, Z, Troy, and Lucas. He was the eldest of thirteen children and is also survived by nine siblings in Korea and the United States.
Beyond his professional accomplishments and love for his family, Dr. Juhn was known for his warm sense of humor, his enduring commitment to building the Korean-American community in Minnesota, and his deep Christian faith. Also a gifted natural writer, Dr. Juhn published two volumes of personal essays reflecting on his experiences and journey across continents.
A visitation will be held at 11:30 AM, following a service at 12:30 PM on Sunday, July 13, at the Waterbury & Kelly Funeral Home in Briarcliff Manor.
