Robert Picarelli, known for his warmth, generosity, and unforgettable presence, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 2, at the age of 89, surrounded by his family.
Bob was the bright, shining light in every room. He loved being surrounded by family and friends, and he made certain everyone always felt welcome, be it in his home in Ossining, or his home in his beloved Cape Cod. Great conversation, lots of love and laughter, and delicious food were always at the center of his and his wife Marion's gatherings of friends and family.
He was deeply respected in every circle of his life, from his community and workplace to his loving family.
Bob was raised in the close-knit neighborhood of Tarrytown, NY, that he loved so dearly. He was the devoted son of Ralph and Mary (Brancato) Picarelli, and his roots in Tarrytown shaped his strong values of service, humility, and devotion to family. He proudly served in the National Guard and gave back to his community as a volunteer fireman and CCD teacher, roles that embodied his commitment to others. He was a man of strong faith and was a parishioner of St. Augustine's Church in Ossining.
Bob spent his entire professional life in the banking industry, where he was known not only for his work ethic and professionalism, but also for his warmth and integrity. His career spanned several respected institutions, including Bank of New York, Connecticut National Bank, and he retired from Union State Bank as Senior Executive Vice President, earning the trust and admiration of colleagues across decades.
Above all, Bob was a man devoted to his family. He met the love of his life, the late Marion Centofanti, when he delivered the paper to her house when they were kids. He would often say it was love at first sight. They were married in 1959 and shared a wonderful life, and an unwavering partnership for 61 years. Bob and Marion were a beautiful example of what married life can and should be. He was the father of Robert and Rita Picarelli, Ralph (deceased) and Debbie Picarelli, Mary and Scott Mossop and Joanne and Daniel Kombert. He was grandfather to Christina Picarelli, Robert Picarelli, Elizabeth Mossop, Kurt and Carly Picarelli, Nathaniel Picarelli-Kombert, Matthew Picarelli-Kombert, Noah Picarelli-Kombert and Daniel Picarelli-Kombert. He was Great Grandfather to Skylar Picarelli. Brother to Ralph and Joseph Picarelli and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Bob's legacy is one of joy, generosity, and a deep love of life. He was a constant presence in the life of his children, who always knew he was there for them, no matter what. He will be remembered for his spontaneous singing, hearty laugh, and an incredible ability to make everyone feel at ease and welcome in his presence. His spirit will live on in the countless people he touched. Bob truly embodied the belief that a stranger was just a friend that you hadn't met yet.
A celebration of Bob's life was held privately with his family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to
