Steven Michael Kahn, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on June 24, 2025, in Great Barrington, Massachusetts - a place he deeply cherished and proudly called home. He was 79 years old.
Born in the Bronx on August 12, 1945, Steven spent his early years playing on the streets of New York alongside his brother Barry. As a young boy, his family relocated to Vineland, New Jersey alongside a host of other Polish immigrant families which formed a new community together. It was in Vineland where he spent the remaining years of his youth, met lifelong friends, and helped out on the family's chicken farm -- the butt of many jokes in his lifetime. As a young man, Steven answered the call of duty and served his country in Vietnam. Those who knew him well could attest to the stories that he carried with him from that time.
After his service, Steven moved to New York City, where he met Nancy, his wife of 28 years. Together, they built a life and an antiques business in Berkshire County and raised two sons, Jules and Zachary.
Steven dedicated over five decades of his life working in the antiques business, a profession in which he was deeply respected and was passionate about. Whether browsing estate sales, studying pieces for appraisals or chatting up customers, he had an eye for the extraordinary. But it wasn't just his work that made him a fixture in town, it was his unmistakable presence. Walking down Main Street or picking up groceries, Steven was rarely without a conversation, a joke, or a warm smile. His humor was legendary - the kind that left you laughing long after the punchline. And in true Steven fashion, he was cracking one-liners till the bitter end.
His two sets of grandkids, though oceans apart, have inherited his sense of humor, often debating which protein best suited him. Alas, he came to be endearingly known as both Grandpa Beef AND Grandpa Chicken. He loved them with boundless pride and joy, and created wonderful memories that will always be cherished.
Steven is survived by his sons Jules and Zachary; his brother Barry and sister-in-law Ronnie; his daughters-in-law Jean-Marie and Rachel; his grandchildren, Noel, Eleanor, Joshua, and Leah; his nephew Max, and nieces Hannah, Julie and Amy and their wonderful partners and children, to whom he was known as Gruncle Steve; and Nancy, with whom he shared a family and a deep friendship. Steven is predeceased by his parents, Moshe and Fanny and his beloved Aunt Goldie.
A private ceremony will be held on Thursday, July 3rd. Steven Michael Kahn's legacy is one of love, humor, and connection. He will be missed more than words can say - but never forgotten.
