Steven Ray Kirksey was born June 1, 1953 in Spearfish. He was the son of Roger and Opia (Merrill) Kirksey. Steven grew up near Colony Wyoming and he graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1971. On June 24, 1974 he was united in marriage to Christina Pierce in Belle Fourche, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ. To this union 3 children were born: Shawna, Mike, and Brad. In his younger years, Steven worked at the Colony Truck Stop, the Greenwood Ranch near Colony, and the Short Pines Ranches near Camp Crook. In 1975 he began working at American Colloid. For 25 years he worked there, and in 2000 he moved on and began working at the Roundup Building Center in Belle Fourche. In 2017 Steven retired. One of his favorite jobs in life revolved around the S and K Motorcycle Repair Shop. He started working there in 1982. Many fun memories were made in the ten years he worked there. That job became more of a hobby to him because it was so enjoyable.

Steven will be remembered for many things, including the many memories made with him camping in the Big Horn Mountains. That was one of his favorite things to do. He loved his Razor and four-wheeling, collecting guns was a passion to him, and he also loved eagles – especially bald eagles. He was a well-known breeder of Husky puppies. He sold them all over the county and his breeding program was very respected. Steven was stubborn and opinionated, and if he liked you – he really liked you. He found it hard to express the love he had for people close to him, including his family - that’s just the way he was made. He loved his wife and children, and he especially loved all his grandchildren. They were the light of his life. Steven will be missed greatly by all his loving family.

Steven is survived by his wife, Tina; daughter, Shawna (Jason) Ashton of Florida; 2 sons, Mike (Brittney Meyer) Kirksey of Belle Fourche, Brad (Alicia) Kirksey of Belle Fourche; 6 grandchildren, Devon(Bailey), Aurora, Jade, Hannah, Jaxon, Levi; 2 great grandchildren, A.J. and Everly; brother, Richard (Sheri) Kirksey of Aladdin WY; sisters, Tammy (Alan) Stearns of Belle Fourche, Joni (Steve) Taylor of Belle Fourche; step-sisters, Debbie Engel of Winner, Diane (Larry) Kathol of Lincoln NE, Wilma (Bill) Keller of Bend OR; step-brothers, Jeff (Terry) Kirksey of Arizona, Ray (Dina) Kirksey of Centennial CO; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 grandchildren, Skyler and Jadyn; and step-sister, Ginger Klinger.
