Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern HillsAlice Lanelle Cundall was born on March 14, 1939, in Spur, Texas. She was the daughter of H.A. and LaFaye (Blair) Marcy. Lanelle graduated from Spur High School in 1957. She graduated from West Texas State University with a Master’s degree in Education.
After teaching four years in Amarillo, Texas, she was hired by the Department of Defense to teach military dependents overseas. She taught in Izmir, Turkey for one year and in Wiesbaden, Germany for four years. Traveling was an important part of her life and she saw many different countries during this time: Turkey, The Holy Lands, India, Egypt, and all of Europe.
In Wiesbaden she met Captain Dale Cundall. They married on August 13, 1967. In 1968 they moved to Loveland, CO, where Lanelle returned to teaching. Dale and Lanelle were blessed with three children: Dave, Marcy, and Nancy. The family moved to Edgemont, SD and then Belle Fourche, SD. Lanelle taught Middle School in Belle Fourche for more than 20 years. She retired in 2001 and then taught music at the elementary school in Newell, SD, for one year.
Lanelle was a very gifted organist and pianist. She played the organ at a variety of churches since she was 17 years old. She played for the Congregational Church in Belle Fourche for over 40 years. She loved playing and singing. She loved her family and enjoyed teaching, reading, and music. She was a very happy, positive, gentle, loving person. She blessed everyone who knew her.
Lanelle went home to heaven on Thursday, November 20, 2025. She is survived by a son, Dave (Linda) Cundall of Spearfish; two daughters, Marcy Cundall of Box Elder, and Nancy Cundall of Clearwater, FL; two grandsons, Darren Cundall and Adam Merkle; a great granddaughter, Elianna; sister, Rozelle (Henry) Hardaway of Panama, OK; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dale.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday, December 5, 2025 at the First Congregation United Church of Christ in Belle Fourche, with Rev. Chuck Aurand officiating. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will take place in Pine Slope Cemetery.
Arrangements are with Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. The service will be livestreamed from Lanelle’s obituary page located on the funeral home’s website: www.LeveringtonFH.com
