Steven Michael Gordon Knief went home to be with his Lord and Savior peacefully with family by his side on Monday November 20, 2023.  Steve was born on November 14, 1952 to Gordon and Vicki Knief of Corpus Christi, Texas.  He grew up in Calallen and continued to reside there.  At a young age Steve developed a love for fast cars and motorcycles which he later passed that love on to his children.  During his summer breaks growing up he would go visit grandpa Ed’s in Houston, Texas.  This is where he developed his mechanic skills as he would work along side his grandpa.  In high school he was a proud member of Calallen FFA as well as a participant in the Nueces County Junior Livestock Show.  He loved raising pigs for the livestock show. One year, he even raised a pig named Beulah, who was named after a hurricane that made landfall in South Texas in 1967.  Steve graduated from Calallen High School in 1972.  Shortly after graduation he enrolled in classes at Del Mar College where he studied instrumentation.  During this time he opened his own business repairing electronics to help him pay for his classes.  In 1976 he married Connie whom he met on a blind date.  Soon after, he began working for Duke Controls and was often sent offshore on jobs.  He often talked about the helicopter rides he would have to take to get to the offshore rigs.  In January of 1979, they were blessed with their first child, a beautiful baby boy.   Then again in November of 1981, God blessed them yet again this time with a daughter. Steve soon found his calling in instrumentation when he went to work for CCPC currently known as Lyondell Bassell, as an instrument technician.   He would continue to work there until his retirement in 2001.  Steve enjoyed watching racing of any kind, but he found it to be most enjoyable when he was watching his kids race cars or BMX bicycles.  He taught both of his children to race go karts at the age of 5 years old. This was something they all loved doing as a family.  Steve was a hard worker. This is something else that was passed on to his kids.  He taught them how to fix things that were broken, how to weld, and even how to bar-b-q.  Steve was well known for throwing together a last minute get together with friends and family where you would always find him at the bar-b-q pit cooking.  He was a great friend to many who he will be missed by.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Vicki Knief; his precious son, Christopher Michael Knief; and many dear friends who were like family.

He is survived by his daughter Stephanie (Amanda); as well as his honorary children, Earl and Christa; and his two loving grandsons, Chance and Tyler; along with his nieces and nephews.

Steve will be missed by many friends and other family members who loved him.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 30, 2023 from 5pm-8pm at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. The Funeral will be Friday, December 1, 2023 at 10am. Graveside service will follow at 11:30am at Memorial Park.
